1. Project Update: Working with Wan'gnyan'g Youth Self Help Group in Siaya County

We are excited to share a progress update on our ongoing intervention with the Wan'gnyan'g Youth Self Help Group in Siaya County. This project is focused on increasing the production of peanuts and other related products, as well as promoting the rearing of poultry within the community.

Key Activities:

  • Peanut Production:

Through training sessions and technical assistance, we have been working closely with members of the Wan'gnyan'g Youth Self Help Group to enhance their skills and knowledge in peanut cultivation. This includes best agronomic practices, pest and disease management, and post-harvest handling techniques to improve yields and quality.

  • Poultry Rearing:

In addition to peanut production, the project also aims to promote poultry rearing among community members. We have provided training on poultry management, feeding practices, and disease prevention to ensure the health and welfare of the birds.

  • Market Linkages:

One of the key components of the intervention is to create market linkages for both peanuts and poultry products. We have been working to establish connections with local markets, vendors, and buyers to ensure that the farmers have access to reliable markets for their produce. This includes exploring opportunities for selling both eggs and poultry meat to meet the demand for high-quality protein in the region.

  • Community Engagement:

Throughout the project implementation, we have been actively engaging with the members of the Wan'gnyan'g Youth Self Help Group and the broader community in Siaya County. This includes participatory meetings, field visits, and feedback sessions to ensure that the project activities are aligned with the needs and priorities of the community.

Moving forward, we will continue to provide ongoing support and technical assistance to the Wan'gnyan'g Youth Self Help Group as they work to increase peanut production and expand their poultry enterprise. We remain committed to empowering smallholder farmers and promoting sustainable agriculture practices for the benefit of the community. We are grateful for the partnership and collaboration of the Wan'gnyan'g Youth Self Help Group and look forward to seeing the positive impact of our intervention in Siaya County.
